Monday - 9/16/13- Today we will be completing on Study Island the pretest and two strands in geography. Finish what you have not done in class during your pare time or study hall. I will also be passing back papers. Make sure to check Progress Book. Both your regions project and Geography Unit 1 test is on there.

Tuesday - 9/4/13 - Today we will begin our Geography unit 2. We are going to focus on some of the new vocabulary words. We will practice using our context clues! Remember to answer your homework in complete sentences. It will be collected and taken for a grade!

Wednesday - 9/5/13 - Today we looked at how human activies alter the physical environment and the positiv eand negative effects of those actions. We talked about dams and began to look at the 3 Gorges dam in China, as that will be our main focus for this next unit.

Thursday - 9/6/13 - Today in class, we will begin looking at the negative effects of the 3 Gorges dam on the environment and people of China in the Eastern hemisphere. You will read over this information and begin taking notes in the Google doc you created yesterday.

Tuesday - 9/4/13 - Presentation day! I have seen a lot of great projects presented in class and I have lots more to look through. Great job and just remember to incorporate the 4 questions from the region comparison handout as well as the information from your notes. Don't forget to proofread!!

Monday - 9/3/13- Hope you had a great weekend! Today we will be studying about regions! We will take some notes on what characterizes a regions and looks at some examples throught a website on Classroom Links on this website. This will lay the ground work on an inclass project we will be creating this week in class. More details to come!
Homework: Chose a country in the Eastern Hemisphere. Pick a topic, such as languages, religion, population,
climate, landforms, etc. and see if you can research on line regions of that country using a topic above or one you think of on your own!
Tuesday - 9/4/13 - We begin our inclass region project today! Please make sure to hold onto all the information papers I have given you. I will circulate around the class to answer any questions and I anticipate great things to come!

Wednesday - 9/5/13 - We will have a work day today to continue moving forward on our regions in class project. Presenting Friday should be your goal, however, you can take the weekend to put on finishing touches if you need and present on Monday! I will also pass out the Geography unit study guide. Remember, the test is September 19th, a Thursday. Check Weebly because I have posted all my presentations under the assessment heading.

Tuesday - 9/4/13 - The focus of today's class will be to review what we learned last week and practice writing answers to questions so that your responses are well-written, thoughtful, and restate the question. This is something stresses in you Language Arts classes, and will also be stressed in Social studies! So, today's sheet was practice to get you back into this habit. This paper was worked on for most of the class period and if you did not finish it, please complete it tonight and turn it in tomorrow.

Wednesday - 9/5/13 - Latitude, Longitude and Absolute Location is the topic of today's class! We will learn about these imaginary lines that help geographers organize the world and watch a Brainpop to go with it! We will also have lots of practice to make sure we know how to locate a place on the map. Please turn in the sheet from yesterday that has the 4 questions and #4 needed to be a paragraph. I will read these and give some feedback since we are strongly emphasizing good, solid writing!

Monday - 8/19/13- Today we will be concentrating on the 7 units we will be studying throughout the course of the year. We begin by brainstorming what we know already abou these topics in the form of stations. From there we will discuss what you have written down as a group and begin working on a colorful end product that will look great for your parents to see on Open House! We will continue some work on it tomorrow.

Tuesday - 8/20/13 - Today is a work day for the Social Studies poster. Remember the following items: Take your time. Also,your rubric looks like this: 3 pts for neatness, 3 pts for coloring and 9 points for the relevance of the words. Spelling does count so make sure you see me with your rought draft to help you proofread! Once completed, these will be hung up for Open House.

Wednesday - 8/21/13 - Today we will be seeing what you know about our first unit on Georgraphy! Hopefully you remember a lot from Moreland. We will go over some notes, which need to be placed in your notebook. I will link these notes to the classroom link section of weebly at a later time. Now that grades are going into Progress Book, be sure to keep on top of your homework! See me if you need help!

Thursday - 8/22/13 - Today we studies different types of maps. Remember, maps are created for a specific purpose! These maps all ave specific purpose to them and they are; physical, thematic, political, and topographic. We will continue learning about these maps tomorrow with an activity using an atlas.

Friday - 8/23/13 - Today we used atlases to review the different types of maps; political, physical, thematic, and topographic. We also watched Brainpops on maps and the GPS system. Tim and Moby - they are a hoot! : ) Please make sure to make up any missing homework from this week and turn it in on Monday. Remember, if you start getting 2-3 assignments missing, you will be in with me during your lunch time finishing them! Have an awesome weekend!
